Hi, it's me again. I've got a serious question. I need some books in English for my scientific work. There is no opportunity to get them in Moscow. So probably I have to buy them in amazon.com. But I don't understand the procedure. By the way it seems to be too expensive. And if there any other ways to get these books?

Yanch* what kind of books do you need exactly? Do you have a list of authors or anything? Amazon really is expensive especially if you you do an international shipment.
Have you looked at "Biblio Globus"? They have a lot of stuff there...

Well, I always thought the sooner you start the better.. but now I see my 4 year-old boy is not ready for it. Im just trying to use simple phrases and word to denote something. The point is, he is not very good at Russian indeed. Everything depends on a child of course, there are children who can take it at 2 and 4 and mental facilities play a great role.

I'm not a specialist but I have been studing English with my daughter since her birthday. We listen to podcasts, movies in English, I read fairy-tales or poems for children and repeat them several times a day.

Personally, I am convinced that any child without specific speech or other pathologies is quite capable of being bilingual. It does not take a special talent for a child, it comes naturally. The trick is to do it from birth and consistently, and for most non-native (or non native-like) speakers that is not that easy. Age 4 might already be too late for simple occasional repetition to be enough, at this age children might already need more structured teaching to make significant progress, although it is never too late!

- Can you explain me the rule of tag-questions? It is always taught in Russian school like this - It is, isn't it?
But while reading Harry Potter book I found examples: You will, will you? etc.

 

- And what about using "личное" pronoun "I":
In Russian school we always use "me" in sentences like this - It is me.
But in the book I've found only - It is I..., It was I who...

No, no, I meant a little bit different thing. When one of parents or relatives is a native speaker and teaching begins with birth that is ok. I should have started teaching from scratch but I lost this moment and now blame myself But I also heard another point of view, it was some kind of linguistic investigation and scientists checked two groups of people : the first-bilingual group, the second was people who learnt English in adult age.. so the result was: people from the second group showed better results in vocabulary, grammar and spelling of both languages. But I fully agree, is never too late to learn
