Posh*,
I haven't seen you in ages!  Where've you been?  How are you doing?  Why aren't you stopping by more often?

Hello there! My DEAREST Talyana, I also have no chance to do what I'd love to! Whenever I have an hour or two to do whatever I want to, I whether iron/make phone calls/cook/ etc etc etc or simply take nap. So, I'm kinda off the "net society". Anyway, I love being completely buzy with my Lizzie! (what a crambo! :D )

It absolutely does not mean that I forgot my online friends and YOU especially! I really appreciate that you still remember me :D

Well. Movies. Hu-h. For the last two months I have permanently been watching two movies in English everyday, all day long: Monsters Inc and Madagascar. My daughter extremely loves them, so I have not a single chance to watch anything else! LOL I already know almost all dialogues and monologues in both those movies! What is also interesting, she doesn't want to watch those in russian. She just starts screeming, if I don't switch language to Eng! She also knows the moments when someone says any word she knows and this makes her excited. Those precious moments with her beautiful eyes and her sweet happy smile are worth of all days of mine spent by watching these movies over and over...

Love to everybody :flowers:

Nothing changes as time passes by. :D I know two or three words in French, and when I'm listening CD of one of my favourite bands (they are French), I become excited like your daughter when I hear the words I know. :uxaxa:

What, then, what shall I do in this case? If I shall lose just a few of freedom to visit this conference- a life, I am afraid, becomes absolutely grey...So?whle you have only your Сашенька,you are almost free as a wind,yet...

Well, I don't know about "free as a wind"... :D While two babies do make you busier than one, I do believe that one is already a full-time job! At least, mine is. Plus, I also teach and try to plan a move.

talyana*, is there any russian mowies which you can watch in USA? I mean translated in English and may be even popular? Or Americans are not aquainted with russian cinema at all?

While you can find Russian movies at big movie rental places (Burnt by the sun, Moscow doesn't believe in tears, and a couple of dozen of others), I'm afraid I can't say that any Russian movie is really known, let alone popular, in the US. However, the same is true about 99% of the world movies, occasionally a French or Italian movie can make it to the top here, but not often. Americans aren't nearly as open as we are to foreign music, movies, etc.

Let's see, the last movie I've seen in a movie theater is We are Marshall (it's about an American football team that dies in an airplane crash and the building of a replacement team for them). It was pretty good, but not extraordinary, I thought. And the movie before this one was The Da Vinci Code - I saw it right before my baby was born. I enjoyed that one, but I've read the book, so the movie wasn't as thrilling, since everything was predictable.

I haven't see The Devil wears Prada, although it did look tempting, maybe I'll rent it some time.

I used to think that this opennes rises from our weak cinema turnout. I mean that the amount of movies produced in Russia is not enough to meet the requirements of the audience. And the quality of our "everyday" movies isn't really high.
Or it is the national policy - people should watch mainly national movies - than they will love their country more? What do you think?

Hello, girls! I'm so happy to have found this topic :yahooo:
I'd like to join it too. I'm from Omsk? as you see :) , I'm 28, I graduated from the University in 2000, my first specialisation was computer science and the second - English, but as time goes I've forgotten it a bit.
So I'm very glad to have an opportunity to practice my English here :D

I congratulate heartily all of you on the 8th of March and wish you happiness and a lot of smiles and flowers!

I've seen "A good year" lately and was really impressed by the Russel Crow acting. I do love this actor !!!

2573922

Well... The word "reanimate" actually exists in English but normally not used in this kind of situations. I understand what you wanted to say but the phrase: "Let's bring it back to life" would sound much better.

I am agree!!!

2574877

This is the most common mistake I encounter with.

The verb "to agree" does not require an auxillary verb like "to be".
The sentence might sond as:

I agree.
I fully agree.
I completely agree.

Negative sentences will sound like:

I do not agree.
I can not agree with you.

I am sorry to be so brief, hope you will understand everything having looked at my signature. :D

Hello :privvv:
It's been quite some time I didn't practice my writing English, hope it's still ok :P I am using English in my everyday life, though I live in a country where the 3 official languages are French, Dutch and German :parrdon: I mostly speak English with my husband, because we got used to it and I find it fair that we use a neutral language, and neither of us has to make sacrifices (if we can call it that), making the other one speak HIS motherlanguage. I know it might sound a bit... strange, but that's my point of view :shuffle:

Well, anyway, I like English, because it helped me find my one and only :aiaiai:

And what about your children? Do they speak only English?

Katka,
I don't know if we can call it a romantic story, but, I guess, it was a nice one :morgalik:
As for children... In the beginning, we tried to make it "smart", my husband was supposed to speak his motherlanguage (which is French) and me, I was supposed to speak Russian. BUT, the problem is, between us, we got used to speaking English, so it didn't go very well, our "smart" idea. My son (he is 3 now) didn't want to speak any language, he was using the shortest words from all used languages, and, of course, it didn't help. But as soon as he went to preschool, we decided not to make it more complicated, and started speaking French to him all the time. I think it's difficult for a child to try and keep up with several languages. He felt lost and not very confident. Though, I see, he does understand Russian and English as well, but I really don't feel like forcing him now with all of this. Time will come, and he will learn them also.
So, for now, we still continue speaking English with my husband, maybe it's wrong, but we got used to it.
With my youngest, I try to keep up and speak French, even if it's difficult sometimes, especially if I'm expressing emotions :parrdon:

kato,
No! Defenitely not, and never in front of children :vertag: Though, in some situations, I admit that's what I want to use. But it has nothing to do with children, it's mostly while driving B)
